This is the remarkable story of a remarkable woman, my mother. She lived in a remarkable place at a remarkable time. Her birthplace was Baghdad, the fabled City of Caliphs and Scheherazade, in a country – Mesopotamia – known for myths and wonders, from the Thousand and One Arabian Nights to the Tower of Babel, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Garden of Eden.
