 This is the remarkable story of a remarkable woman, my mother. She lived in a remarkable place at a remarkable time. Her birthplace was Baghdad, the fabled City of Caliphs and Scheherazade, in a country – Mesopotamia – known for myths and wonders, from the Thousand and One Arabian Nights to the Tower of Babel, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Garden of Eden. It was home to our people whose ancestors were brought back as slaves from Israel some 2,600 years earlier and were descended from the most venerable Jewish community in the world – the Jews of Babylon
